Box system made of mango wood

Posted: 22 Jun 2012 05:10 AM PDT

We all dream about the way in which we arrange things in our houses, after choosing the models we want. No matter it is a piece of furniture, a decorative object, every object is important, just like the way of arranging it. Every little thing contributes to the general picture, every detail is important.

As we all have at home at least one audio system, both boxes and box systems are important. The modular wall cabinet in the picture is actually a multifunctional range of shelf boxes for wall mounting works. No matter their use, the boxes are made of the wood of a fruit tree, mango that was made sustainable.

There are different shades of wood you can choose from, depending on your taste. The plentiful wooden boxes seem to be perfect for all kind of things; they can be used not only for the boxes you want to place on a wall, but also for other objects that can be arranged on the modular wall cabinet or as separate pieces, not necessarily on the wall, ideal as coffee tables and even chairs. The concept of wooden pieces of furniture is very modern and attractive for most people nowadays, no matter their functions. They give an unique air to the space they are placed in, an air no other material can provide, warm and pleasant.

4 Quick Tips For Organizing Your Movies

Posted: 22 Jun 2012 03:12 AM PDT

Your DVDs and Blu Rays are nothing without organization. And it’s quite easy to make a mess of your collection. It takes forever to find them, your favorite movies get lost and you can’t remember what you do and don’t have when you see an awesome sale on blu rays at your local movie store. However you’d like to organize your movies, whether alphabetically, by movie case cover or by genre, that’s up to you! But we’re here to give you some fast and easy tips on how to organize the clutter and omit all the crazy movie madness.

Check out these 4 great tips on how to organize your movies and de-clutter your bookshelves and baskets quick!

1. Cute boxes and labels will save you & your movies!

Find the right amount of fun boxes, grab your label maker and start organizing. It’s quite simple and won’t take as long as you  may expect. You can even buy some plain boxes and decorate them however you like … with stickers, paints or markers!

2. Grab those old CD cases and take them out of hiding .. they can still be used!

Remember when we had to actually use a CD to listen to music and not just a file download? Well, since we don’t actually need those CD cases anymore to organize those music discs, dust them off and use them to organize your DVDs and Blu Rays. Talk about de-cluttering and creating more room! And it’ll be more fun looking through all your movies and deciding which one is right for a late night popcorn date! And you won’t get a neck ache!

3. Leave the chunky DVD and Blu Ray cases behind.

Another way to de-clutter and maximize your organization space is to take away all the movie cases. Find plastic boxes like these (foud at stores like Staples, Office Max, WalMart and Target) and use slipcovers to organize! It’s easy to look for and to utilize.

4. Keep a database.

If you have a big movie collection, you know it’s hard to remember all the DVD and Blu Rays (and possible VHS’s) you may have. So start a database on the computer or in a binder! Take a quick look at it to see if you liked it, if you should sell it, if you have it and where it’s located!

Neo-classic project by Ecker Architects

Posted: 22 Jun 2012 01:37 AM PDT

Kanzlei Balkenhol is among the buildings under historic preservation laws and was renovated and turned into a professional leasing property for law offices and an accounting firm. Built on a massive plinth, the construction has two facades that are adorned with elaborate sandstone decorations in the unique neo-classic style.

Being new and centrally located, it contains everything a professional property needs: stairs, entryways, toilets, wardrobes and break rooms, but what makes the difference is the harmony created by colors and materials and the composition of old and new. Nothing compares to the German style in design, especially if it is under the name of Ecker Architects. The rooms are pleasant in their simplicity and elegance.

The tones are warm and inviting; there is more than the common atmosphere that can be met in an office or firm; every room has a colorful painting on the wall that adds a personal tone to the entire atmosphere. Simplicity and elegance reign everywhere and the colors and materials around create a pleasant ambiance that makes you feel welcome. Every space and every corner is perfect through its simplicity, but also through the shape of the furniture and the modernity of the space itself. Nothing seems too complicated or too rigid in a world where everything seems to be perfect just the way it is.

Bettina Prentice’s chic and colorful apartment

Posted: 22 Jun 2012 12:12 AM PDT

This apartment belongs to Bettina Prentice, founder and owner of Prentice Art Communications, and her husband Jamie. The couples recently hanged homes and moved into this spacious apartment where they can finally display their art collection. For them, changing homes was easy. It didn't require a lot of stress and it was something natural.

The couple relocated with great ease. They were anxious to finally have a spacious place to live in but they decided not to get too stressed about it. The first day after moving in there they realized that not a single box was unpacked. They were just happy to be there. However, that part needed to be done. They first unpacked the stereo and the music really put them in a great move. Everything was unpacked and in place quickly and with no unnecessary stress.

The couple was really happy to have such a spacious new home. They loved the high ceilings and the fact they they had enough space to display everything. With a 1,800 square-foot apartment the atmosphere is very airy and relaxed. The apartment is now beautifully decorated with lots of artwork on the walls and it has an overall personalized style and original look. The décor is modern and chic, just how you would expect to be from a free-spirited couple like this one.{found on vogue}.

Top 10 tiniest apartments and their cleverly organized interiors

Posted: 21 Jun 2012 10:00 PM PDT

Small apartments are always problematic in terms of interior décor. There's just not enough space for everything you want to include there and you have to find solutions for these problems. There is no perfect solution but some of them are really clever and simple. Let's take a look at 10 of the smallest apartments we could find and see how their owners managed to decorate them.

1. 16 sq ft apartment in Hong Kong.

When you think of a tiny apartment you imagine something small but not as small as this one. This apartment measures only 16 square feet and it's the smallest one of our list. The entrance leads you directly in bed. However, the small space is exploited 100%. The apartment, resembling a closet rather than a home, is beautifully decorated with modern artwork and several minimalist decorations. The window is one of the best features and, in order to save space, it doubles as a desk. It seems like an extreme situation but it could be everything a busy person needs.

2. 78 sq ft apartment in Manhattan.

It would seem odd for an architect who spends most of his time designing spacious homes to live in a tiny apartment like this one. Nevertheless, this is what Luke Clark Tyler calls home. He used to live in a 96 sq ft space but decided to downsize, moving in here. The architect designed and built all the furniture. This way he was able to use every inch of the space and to make the most out of this apartment. The apartment has high ceilings and is decorated with a bed, a desk, a small refrigerator and a microwave. The bad news is that there's no private bathroom.{found on Fair Companies and pics by Luke Clark Tyler}.

3. 90 sq ft Manhattan microstudio.

This place is a microstudio, meaning that it's in fact a very small studio, as if a regular one wasn't small enough. It measures 90 square feet and it's located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. It's a very cozy space but, in order to save space, the bed sits on an elevated platform very close to the ceiling. The bathroom is very tiny and not very comfortable either. Nevertheless, the apartment is cleverly organized and it's extremely cozy.{found on Faircompanies}.

4. 140 sq ft holiday studio apartment in South Kensington.

This compact apartment is located in South Kensington, London, in an exclusive neighborhood with luxurious homes. Even so, this one is very small and can only house two guests. It's a compact form of luxury. The apartment is decorated with all sorts of high-tech gadgets that make you forget about the size for a moment. The bed is raised at 6 ft off the floor and accessible by a ladder. The interior design is minimalist and well organized. The apartment is very cozy and it's regarded as the tiniest and most luxurious apartment in the capital.{found on dailymail}.

5. 226 sq ft Swedish crib.

Even though this apartment measures only 226 square feet, it's a surprisingly airy and inviting home. The interior decor is simple and very tasteful, a typical example of Swedish design. At the entrance there's a small hallway. Then there's a bright room, the only one, decorated with a table for two, an expandable sofa and an extra bed. It has three large windows and a space designed for cooking. The wall-mounted units take care of the owners' storage needs. The décor is indeed very beautiful, bright and colorful.{found on Skeppsholmen}.

6. 258 sq ft apartment in Barcelona.

This tiny apartment has been transformed beyond recognition by its current owner. Located in Barcelona, the apartment has a boat-inspired interior design. The space has been cleverly used. The bed is a pull-out and it's hidden under the balcony, a quite unusual place. In order to save even more space, furniture pieces such as the table and the sofa first have to be assembled in order to be used. This ensures a very dynamic atmosphere. The apartment has a full kitchen and plenty of storage space. It might be small, but its owner found a new way of decorating it according to his style.{found on Christian Schallert and Fair Companies}.

7. 344 sq ft apartment with an extremely flexible interior.

This apartment might measure only 344 square feet but its interior can be transformed into 24 different configurations. This is all possible thanks to the accordion-like wall units. The idea is very ingenious and the apartment is extremely flexible. This space-saving solution allowed its owner to call this place a Domestic Transformer. Moreover, the futuristic sliding wall mechanism ensures a modern décor that sits many different purposes.{found on NY Times}.

8. 446 sq ft apartment in the middle of Vaasa.

This apartment is small but it's very bright, peaceful and refreshing. It has a very well planned interior and each inch is used in the best possible way. The living room seems spacious and it's very bright. It's decorated with a long sofa on which guests can sit and watch TV or chat. In the corner of the room there's a work area very practically organized. The large windows let in lots of natural light and the whole apartment is very airy and peaceful.{found on Alvhemmakler}.

9. 450 sq ft Manhattan apartment with a hidden bed.

The owner of this tiny apartment went to professionals for help when he had to remodel and decorate it. The designers opted for a very clever solution that allows the owner to have it all: a large bed to sleep on at night and lots of free space during the day. The solution consists in hiding the bed inside a closet. The wall unit opens up revealing the bed and, when not used, it is safely hidden inside and the décor is simple and airy. The huge wall unit also takes care of the owner's storage needs.{found on Gizmodo}.

10. 500 sq ft apartment with ingenious storage solutions.

Even though this apartment is considered small by most standards, it's actually the biggest one from our list. It measures 500 square feet and the designers managed to maximize this space, turning it into a very cozy and yet airy home. The apartment was decorated in a way that would respond to its owners' needs that also work from home. It's a contemporary apartment with storage hidden in the most unexpected places, like the stairs for example. This ensures an uncluttered and airy atmosphere. To make the apartment cozy, warm and inviting, a lot of wood was used in the renovation process.{found on JPDA Architects}.

The modern and casual Stammtisch table by Alfredo Häberli

Posted: 21 Jun 2012 08:49 PM PDT

Restaurant tables have a very distinctive design. Apparently they are no different from the tables we use in our homes and yet somehow they have a very different feel and look. It all lies in the details. Alfredo Häberli tried to bring some of the restaurant's charm inside our homes by designing the Stammtisch table.

Stammtisch is an apparently very simple piece of furniture. It's a table like many others but it also has some very distinctive features. The designer tried to make it somehow relate to the restaurant tables by including some of the elements that are typical to those pieces of furniture. The Stammtisch table was designed for Quotes in 2012 and it's a simple but attractive piece of furniture. It's a rectangular table with a wooden construction and that was designed to help create a relaxed and casual atmosphere while also introducing some distinguished style in the room.

The table has an oval shape with smooth lines and edges. It can accommodate a large number of people and, at the same time, it maintains a very social, casual and intimate atmosphere. A wooden bar is placed longitudinally above the floor. It's a practical element that gives users a place to rest their feet onto. It' also the element that helps people relax and thus a cozy and legere atmosphere is created. The Stammtisch table is made from sheet metal and wood.

The metal parts have different colors and add a bold touch. On the other hand, the wood adds warmth and familiarity while also being able to create a sophisticated look. The overall dimensions of the table are Length: 210, 240, 270, 300 cm; height: 75cm; Width: 119 cm (oval top) or 100 cm (rectangular top). Round: diameter 145cm; height: 75 cm. Different finishes are available on request.

The bold 4 Najuda project by Atelier Base

Posted: 21 Jun 2012 07:28 PM PDT

This contrasting and bold space is a residence located in Ajuda, Lisbon, Portugal. It was designed by Atelier Base. The construction started in 2010 and it was completed in 2012. The house covers a surface of 70 square meters. However, it's not the size or the exterior that it's impressing but rather the interior and the way the rooms are delimitated not just structurally but also visually.

There's a very interesting contrast of colors inside this house. Some rooms are completely white while others are bright range and the transition is sudden and striking. This alternation of colors was chosen because of the difference in light noticeable from one room to another. This way the architects achieved the correction of light through saturated color. As you enter in the house you reach the living room. There's no hallway or transition space.

The living room is white with wooden floors and a large wall unit with lots of compartments and open shelves for storage. This area has large windows and it's filled with light. It's why the walls are white and the atmosphere is airy. From the living room you can then reach the kitchen and bathroom area. This is a brightly orange space with orange walls, orange ceiling and orange furniture. The light brings everything together and creates a bold décor. The rooms are separated by sliding doors. The house offers variety in terms of atmosphere, décor and color.{found on arhdaily}.
